Sloppy work at Cottman Transmission, paid double
|
May 10, 2008 Cottman Transmission complaint by Yenick1 |
I had my transmission rebuilt at Cottman because it was slipping and needed to be fixed. I went there because I figured this place was "America's Transmission Specialist".
I picked up my car when it was done and I noticed it did not feel quite right, but I was told that it was fixed properly. I spent about $2,500.
The transmission work was warranted to 12,000 miles, and when driving the car at 13,479 miles later the transmission fluid was flowing out of the transmission like a waterfall. I decided to take it into my standard mechanic this time. After removing the transmission and inspecting it, it was determined that the torque converter had cracked and the internals were also bad. My mechanic said “Who did the job before? They did a %*@# job, very sloppy. They installed the cheapest torque converter possible and things were scratched where they shouldn’t be.”
This made me very angry as now I needed to spend another $1,900 with my mechanic to fix the transmission again which should’ve been fine with Cottman.
I wrote Cottman with my complaint and their response was:
I am very sorry that you are a dissatisfied Cottman Customer.
Unfortunately, the warranty is only valid for the express terms on your Repair Order of time and mileage, whatever comes first. Since you are past the warranty limits by one year and more than 1000 miles, and have already had your transmission work redone, we are unable to assist you in any way.
Cottman Customer Relations
So sure, it was past warranty but is that their tactic? To use the cheapest parts and sloppy work so you have to get it fixed right after the warranty expires?
I don’t recommend Cottman.
(This was done at the Brookfield, WI location)
